In 1986 Nightclub singer/pianist Rommy Revson looking for a gentler alternative to plastic hair ties, dreamt up the concept of our beloved scrunchie inspired by the waistband of her pajama pants
You can find the prototype on display, along with the sewing machine used to make it, in the Smithsonian Museum today
